SAS Versions

Currently, we are only distributing media for SAS 9.2. If you need SAS 9.1.3, please contact Justin Walker at ITS.

Windows Compatibility

SAS 9.2 is supported on the following Microsoft Operating Systems

  • Windows XP Professional 32-bit and 64-bit editions
  • Windows Vista (Enterprise, Business, and Ultimate Editions) 32-bit and 64-bit editions. There is no support for Windows Vista Home Edition.
  • Windows 7 (Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate Editions) 32-bit and 64-bit editions. There is no support for Windows 7 Home or Starter Editions.

Types of Installation

Administrative Install

There is no Administrative Install for SAS 9.2. See the Standard Install section below.

Standard Install

SAS 9.2 install consists of 4 DVDs. This type of install allows you to select which SAS component you would like to install from all the available components.

Obtaining the Installation Disks

Faculty, Staff, and Instructors

Mathematics and Statistics Faculty/Staff/Instructors can request a copy of the install DVDs from Joe Burleson (Computer Science Department). All other Departments and Colleges should contact Justin Walker at ITS to checkout the installation DVDs.

Students

Students cannot request a copy of the install disks. Please have your instructor, faculty member, department staff or research adviser contact one of the people listed above.

License

The information provided on this page is for the Arkansas State University License only. It does not pertain to the SAS License held by the College of Business. For information on the College of Business SAS license please contact them directly.

Due to the limited number of licenses that we hold, SAS is not available on all campus computers. Please consult with your instructor to find out if your department has a lab with SAS installed.

We do provide students with SAS installation disks on an as needed basis for course work and research. Refer to this section for information on obtaining the installation disks. Students cannot directly request the disks, only Faculty, Staff, and Instructors may request installation disks.

Installation

Updating your license

The SAS license has to be renewed each October. If your license has expired, please have your instructor or research adviser contact Joe Burleson (Computer Science Department) or Justin Walker (ITS) for a new license file. Students cannot request the file, only Faculty, Instructors, and Staff may request the updated license.

Once you have received a copy of the new license file, download the license to your computer and follow the instructions below to update the license on your computer.

The following instructions assume that you already have SAS installed on you computer.

SAS 9.1.3

Screenshots of steps 1 through 6 are provide below the renewal instructions.

  1. Click "Start"->"Programs"->"SAS"->"SAS 9.1 Utilities"->"Renew SAS Software".
  2. When prompted to enter the "SAS Installation Data File", use the browser button to locate the license file that you downloaded to your computer. Once the new license file has been selected, click "Next".
  3. Click "OK".
  4. Click "Next".
  5. Click "Renew".
  6. Click "Ok".
  7. Start SAS and verify that everything is working.

  1. Click "Start"->"Programs"->"SAS"->"SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities"->"Renew SAS Software".
  2. When prompted to enter the "SAS Installation Data File", use the browser button to locate the license file that you downloaded to your computer. Once the new license file has been selected, click "Next".
  3. Click "OK".
  4. Click "Renew".
  5. Click "Ok".
  6. Start SAS and verify that everything is working.

Troubleshooting

Reboot Pending Message

If a "Reboot Pending" message appears multiple times during the installation, please refer to here for possible solutions.

Note: One reboot is generally required when installing the SAS JRE.

SAS Private Java Runtime Environment

If the installation of the SAS Java Runtime Environment freezes during the Verifying System Requirements process, you can install the Java Runtime Environment manually.

SAS 9.1.3

  1. Insert the SAS 9.1.3 DVD into the DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Open "My Computer".
  3. Click on the DVD drive icon.
  4. Double click the folder labeled "Disk1".
  5. Double click the folder labeled "srw".
  6. Double click the folder labeled "bundles".
  7. Double click the folder labeled "sasjre".
  8. Double click the file labeled "JRESetup.exe" or just "JRESetup".
  9. Follow the onscreen instructions for install the JRE. If ask to overwrite any files, click "Yes".
  10. Once the Java Runtime Environment is installed, restart the SAS Installation procedure. Make sure to run the "Verify System Requirements" again to ensure that all other system requirements are isntalled.

Sonic DLA

If you have Roxio (Sonic) DVD or CD Burning software installed, you may see the following error message when you attempt to switch disks during the installation:

To fixed this you can either uninstall the Sonic DLA program or do the following:

  • Close any SAS installation currently in progress. This proceedure will not work if the SAS installation program is running. You may have to close the program from the Task Manager.
    • To open the Task Manager, click on "Start->Run" then type 'taskmgr.exe' (without the quotes) and click "Ok".
  • Open "My Computer".
  • Right click on the DVD drive icon that has the SAS disk in it. It should say "SAS Software Disk X", where X is the setup disk number you are currently on.
  • Select the "DLA" tab and remove the check next to "Enable DLA on your drives".
  • Click "Ok" to close the Properties dialog.
  • Now restart the SAS installation.

To see when your current SAS License will expire, start the SAS program and run the following program

proc setinit;
run;
