Bachelors of Arts in Computer Science

Description

The Bachelors of Arts degree in Computer Science focuses on the basics of computer problem solving applicable to the business environment. The program builds a strong foundation in programming, software development, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and database systems. In addition, a broad exposure to information technology in business provides an understanding of problem solving in a business environment. Students will gain skills in several programming environments and software applications through laboratories and classroom assignments. Electives are part of the program and allow students to explore various topics in artificial intelligence, distributed systems, graphics, compilers, and advanced programming.

Student Learning Outcomes

After completion of the Bachelors of Arts degree in Computer Science, a student will have met the following learning outcomes:

  1. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline.
  2. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution.
  3. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.
  4. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to function effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.
  5. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain an understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities.
  6. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  7. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
  8. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development.
  9. Graduates of the B.S./B.A. Computer Science degree program attain the ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice.
